Task 1.5: Master Computer Auto-update
Task 1.5: Master Computer Auto-update
Purpose: Configures the master computer to receive TraCS updates and installs the most recent update on the master computer. Auto-update is a web service. The master computer connects to the Internet and accepts updates from Badger TraCS. The master computer is also used to approve these updates to other office workstations and mobile units in your agency.
Requirements: Master computer connected to the Internet.
Close the configuration manager if it is still open from the previous task.
Register your master computer with Badger TraCS.
Start TraCS.
TraCS will attempt to connect to the update server, but the update server does not yet know that your master computer should be authorized. When you get to the login screen, click Cancel.
Send an e-mail to badgertracs@dot.wi.gov requesting that your master computer be authorized. Please include the Windows machine name for your master computer and the name of your agency.

Did You Know?
You can use the hostname command in Windows to identify the computer name.
Click the Start button and type cmd in the search box and press <enter>. The command console will appear. Type hostname and press <enter>.
Your Windows computer name will appear in the console.
After Badger TraCS has responded, authorizing your master computer, start TraCS again.
Start TraCS.
Click OK
Log into TraCS using User 00001 and Password “tracs”
Click Cancel on the Locate Device-Barcode Reader
You will receive notifications in your Windows task bar that files are downloading.
And then
When you receive the notification that the download is complete, exit TraCS by clicking the Cancel button on the log in screen. Then restart TraCS.
Start TraCS.
Click Ok
Log into TraCS using User 00001 and Password “tracs”
Click Yes to start the update process.
Click Close
TraCS will restart when the update is complete.
When you receive the “Would you like to allow client computers to begin updating” box, Click No.
Note: Many of the tasks that follow will have you use TraCS to configure TraCS. When you log in, you may see messages reminding you that certain steps haven’t been completed yet. This is normal and will stop after you complete the tasks in chapter 3.
