TraCS has a choice of three different clients: standard mobile, office, and web services.  The type of clients running at your agency is depends on your needs and your available IT infrastructure.

The office client is used for desktop computers at the agency headquarters that are connected to the TraCS data database. Computers running TraCS in office mode are generally referred to as TraCS workstations.

The standard mobile client is used for computers such as laptops or tablet PCs in a mobile or field environment such as a squad car or other vehicle.

The web services client is also intended in a mobile or field environment such as squad car or another vehicle.  The web services client can retrieve forms from the TraCS office database and is the preferred option where a high-level connectivity is available in the field.  It requires configuring TraCS to run as a web application on an IIS server.

A typical implementation of TraCS involves several field units, several workstations, a network, and a database to store the collected data.   However, because of the scalability of TraCS, it can be used with a single workstation only or with hundreds or thousands of field units and workstations.
