Data Transfer from Mobile to Office Computer

There are 2 setups for TraCS in Wisconsin

  • Web Services

  • Legacy Systems (End-Shifting)

Web Services Agencies

Web services agencies still have 2 separate computer types, Office Clients and Mobile Clients. Their are 2 main differences between the computer types

  1. Transmission can only be preformed on a Office Client

  2. More Configuration Manager tasks can be preformed on an Office Client, and in some cases work better.

  3. You can have more items in your search results.

Mobile Clients update the Office Database every 30 seconds when in online mode so everyone has access to the forms immediately after they are created. We recommend using the Complete Status to signal when a form is ready for office personal to review.

NOTE: Hosted Environment is a Web Services Installation and all agencies use mobile clients.

Legacy Agencies(Non Web Services Agencies)

TraCS Office computers are normally in the local agency headquarters (Police Station) while Mobile computers are in squads.

Data collected in a squad (Mobile) is sent to the local agency headquarters via the end-shift function.  The end-shift function sends the forms to a designated folder (referred to as the “mailbox”), typically on a network drive or thumb drive.    Then the end-shift is performed on the Office computer to move the forms from the mailbox into the TraCS database.

Similarly, the start-shift function transfers forms from the Office computer back to the squad (Mobile).

Agencies that have squad’s setup as Office computers don’t perform end shifts because all form data is saved directly to the TraCS database.  These agencies must have high connectivity levels at all times.

NOTE: The TraCS Vendor no longer recommends the use of Start Shift/End Shift for the majority of TraCS implementations. Agencies are encouraged to discuss Web Services implementations with their state agencies.
