Cradle Point Basics
The TraCS unit are not specialists in Cradle Points. The below information is just some points we have gathered over time when assisting agencies. Your IT should be the main point of contact for configuring cradle points.
Use this example to setup your Cradle Point router for GPS over UDP. This FAQ will show
you a working example of a Cradle Point router sending GPS info to TraCS as well as your
agency’s Mobile Data Interface (MDI).
Login to your Cradle Point router and use the screen shots below to help setup this
device. It’s important to configure this under the ‘Send to Server(s)’ option.
You need to specify the server IP address that is sending the GPS signal out.
You will also need to specify the Port number of the signal.
You can have multiple port numbers sending over the signal to
accommodate other software also utilizing the GPS signal. (Name each of
these accordingly to not confuse which software is using what port.)
It’s important to also make sure the ‘Language’ the GPS sever is sending is set to
‘NMEA’.We suggest using the Reporting Interval Settings outlined below.
Agencies can edit these settings to accommodate their needs, TraCS only
suggests these settings because of prior success with the outlined
configuration.
You will want to change your distribution to reflect the change and the distribution
will set the mobiles to recognize that the GPS signal is coming through the UDP port. After running the distribution, you can check the GPS.ini file locally on a mobile
computer.Go to C:\ProgramData\TraCS\Settings\DLL Settings and open the GPS.ini file.
Check that the CommPort is set to the same number your setup on Cradle
Point.Enable should be set to Enabled=False, while the EnabledUDP=True
The CommPortSetttings should be ignored but if there are settings there.
However, setting this field to blank in the distribution is recommended.
