Task 3.11: Configure Start-shift/End-shift Mailbox

Task 3.11: Configure Start-shift/End-shift Mailbox

Purpose: Defines storage location and method of transferring data between field units and the office TraCS database.

Requirements: Master computer.  Answer to question 2 on the Architecture Planning Worksheet.

This task should be obsolete. Agencies should be using and installing web services which does not need end-shifting.

Choose the most appropriate option for your agency from the alternatives listed below.

Alternative A: Perform Task 3.11(a) if your response to question 2 on the architecture worksheet was:

Low connectivity field units: We have a wireless hotspot in garage for field units.  Our field units are connectable to the network/Internet at least some of the time. Or, we have broadband in the squad cars, but we are concerned about dead spots or network reliability.  Squad cars will use the mobile mode of TraCS.

Alternative B: Perform Task 3.11(b) if your response to question 2 on the architecture worksheet was:

No connectivity field units:  We have no or very little ability to connect to a network or Internet from a field unit.  USB flash drives are our primary means of transferring data.  Squad cars will use the mobile mode of TraCS.
