Active Directory Database Connection

Active Directory Database Connection

Edit the Active Directory connection to enable TraCS to use Active Directory.

Required: Active Directory and Web Services

There is a special database connection that will need to be created using the Database Connection Editor inside the Configuration Manager so that TraCS knows how to connect to your Active Directory server.

  • Click the Add button. Name the connection "Active Directory" and choose "Other" from the Database drop down box.

  • Click OK to finish creating the connection.

  • Select the connection that you created in the tree on the left-hand side of the editor.

  • Configure the following properties for the connection

  • The following are the attributes

  • Name – The name of the connection. It must be set to "Active Directory".

  • Description – The description of the connection.

  • Secure – If checked, the connection is not accessible through rules.

  • LDAP – Your LDAP connection string that points to the object where your users are set up. In order for the string to work correctly, ensure that the string begins with "LDAP://"

  • LoginGroup – The name of the login group that you created in Active Directory.

  • AccessLevels

    • Enter True if Access Level information will be maintained in Active Directory.

    • Enter False if Access Level information will be maintained in TraCS

  • AssocUsers

    • Enter True if Associated User information will be maintained in Active Directory.

    • Enter False if Associated User information will be maintained in TraCS.

  • UserGroups

    • Enter True if User Groups information will be maintained in Active Directory.

    • Enter False if User Groups information will be maintained in TraCS.

  • PrimaryGroup – True/False value that determines whether or not TraCS should search for groups that are nested under the AD primary group when looking for the TraCS AD info.

  • PrmGrpLDAP – The LDAP connection to the AD primary group. This property should be left blank unless the PrimaryGroup property is set to True. In order for the string to work correctly, ensure that the string begins with "LDAP://"

  • UserDefFlds

    • Enter True if User Definable field information will be maintained in Active Directory.

    • Enter False if User Definable field information will be maintained in TraCS. See the instructions above for how to add custom User Definable Field custom attributes information into Active Directory.

The following settings are only needed if using the TraCS Active Directory Service. See the Alternative Setup for Increasing AD Performance section below for more information.

  • Sync Interval – The number of minutes between when the TraCS Active Directory Service syncs the TraCS User Database with Active Directory. The default value is 240 minutes.

  • UserID – The User ID that the TraCS Active Directory Service uses to login to AD.

  • Password – The Password that the TraCS Active Directory Service uses to login to AD.

  • ConfirmPassword – Used to confirm the Password that the TraCS Active Directory Service uses to login to AD.
