Travel Authorization (TA) Notification Procedures within STAR
The standard STAR Travel Authorization (TA) process does not include notifications through the regular chain of command by default. Because of this, the DSP Colonel or Superintendent may see TA requests in STAR that the Bureau Directors or Section Chiefs have not been made unaware of. The STAR procedures described below should be used to assure that notifications of all appropriate levels of supervision have been completed before the authorization moves to the DSP Colonel or Superintendent.
Responsibilities
The Employee or the Employee's delegate is responsible for entering the TA into STAR. The TA will be used to create the expense report while traveling and/or when the trip has been completed.
The Employee is responsible for notifying their direct supervisor, their section chief, and director before TA submission.
The Director is responsible for reviewing and approving the TA for submission.
Supervisors are responsible for reviewing and approving the TA after submission.
Steps to Provide Notification Before the Formal Travel Authorization is Submitted
Create the Travel Authorization (TA) using the job aids provided within STAR and click on the Save for Later button in the upper right.
Click on View in the column on the left.
Click the Notify button at the bottom.
Enter the Section Chief and Director’s emails in the To: field.
Await word from the Director that they approve. (this is not within STAR)
When/if approval is received, return to the STAR My Travel Authorizations section, click on Create/Modify on the left side and click on the Find an Existing Value button in the upper right.
Search for your travel authorization, select it, and then click on the Summary and Submit button in the upper right to move the TA to the next step in the regular approval process.
