2024 Fatalities and Finalization

Our goal is to finalize the 2024 crash data on 2025-05-09 and to make the statically analysis extracts available to analysts on 2025-05-19.

We continue our work towards 100% FARS reportability verification of 2024 cases before finalization. In most cases this verification hinges on the availability of death certificate information. The bulk of the death records that we need come in the form of monthly DHS extracts.

The January fatality was never born, so we do not expect a death record. There are 2 out of state deaths that require assistance from that state’s FARS team. Of the 29 fatalities in need of verification but with the death record identified, 23 are marked as pending, meaning that the coroner or medical examiner has not yet concluded their investigation of the death.

2024 Fatalities, Reasons Dismissed or Withdrawn

Dismissals are not FARS reportable fatalities that were not included in a Daily Fatality Report. Withdrawals were announced in a Daily Fatality and had to be withdrawn after they were found not to be reportable.
