Safe Handling and Attachment Review Requests Through BITS Cybersecurity

On occasion, received emails that may otherwise appear to be legitimate may contain attached file types that employees recognize as unusual or non-standard. Instead of something like a PDF document, an email may contain a .MOV file, a .ZIP file etc. employees may wish to have email attachments reviewed for puposes of determining whether they are safe. If the email itself is at all concerning, the Report Phishing button in Outlook should be used to alert WisDOT Security of a potential phishing email.

If the email appears to be legitimate, but the attached file type is unusual or non-standardis something that should be reviewed, the Bureau of Information Technology (BITS) Cyber Security group has provided the following process to have them safely evaluate attached files:

Step 1: Use the Forward as an attachment feature for the email which contains the attached file.
